NOWRUZ CELEBRATION 2026
On Saturday, March 21, at the invitation of the Association to Defend Freedom & Human Rights in Iran- Australia, and hosted by Dr. Yola, a vibrant Nowruz celebration—this joyful and ancient festival was held and commemorated in the presence of members of the Iranian community as well as representatives from other communities.
Nowruz, as a deeply rooted tradition in the history and culture of Iran, has always maintained an inseparable bond with the lives of its people. It stands as a symbol of renewal, hope, and the continuity of a cultural heritage that has endured many challenges over time.

This year, we welcomed Nowruz while the painful memories of the events of the month of January remain fresh in our minds; a time when thousands of young people, women, and men in Iran lost their lives during protests, and tens of thousands more were arrested or injured. At the same time, nearly a month has passed since military attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran and the escalation of broader regional tensions developments that have raised serious concerns about peace and stability.
Despite these hardships and sorrows, the celebration of Nowruz carries even deeper meaning. Honouring this ancient tradition is a reaffirmation of the resilience of Iranian culture and a hopeful outlook toward a brighter future.

The gathering was marked by a warm and friendly atmosphere, with meaningful conversations among community members and guests, the renewal of connections, and the exchange of current news. Guests also enjoyed delicious dishes prepared by the association’s volunteers, followed by dinner and speeches from the special guest and other speakers, all of which brought renewed spirit and energy to those in attendance.
During part of the celebration, Nowruz traditions and the Haft-Seen table were introduced. Speakers also addressed the current situation in Iran, highlighting the hopes and aspirations of the people, and spoke about the courage and resilience of Iran’s youth and women. In particular, tribute was paid to one of the victims, Ms. Raha Bahlouli-Pour, through a brief account of her life. Additionally, a moving recollection from a physician who witnessed the events of the 8th and 9th of January was shared, honouring the memory of these national heroes.

Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all participants and distinguished guests who accepted our invitation, as well as to the volunteers and organizers of this heartfelt event. We extend our special thanks to Dr. Yola for her continued and generous hosting of this annual gathering.
